So What’s the Difference Between a Hotel Suite and a Hotel Room?

In the hotel industry, a room is defined as a bedroom with a private bathroom. It will usually have a chair, a TV, and a dresser and/or desk, but, except for the bathroom, everything is in the same room.

suite is a step up from a room. Suites are a bit more spacious. They have a separate living area, a bedroom, and a private bath. Some will include a kitchenette and maybe a dining table.

Suites come in a variety of shapes and sizes:

  • Jr. suites have a separate sleeping and living area, but there is no “solid” separation (wall) between the two.
  • A one-bedroom suite will have a fully separated sleeping and living area.
  • Larger suites range from two-bedroom suites to residential suites (which are much like an apartment) to Presidential Suites (with all the “bells and whistles”) to Bridal Suites (designed for a romantic stay).

The Best Hotels in Pigeon Forge with Suites

This is not an exhaustive list of the hotels in Pigeon Forge with suites, but these are some of the very best!

These hotels all have three things in common:

  • They are all in Pigeon Forge, TN.
  • They all feature suites.
  • They are all highly rated on Google Reviews, with a rating of 4.4 to 4.8 out of 5 stars.

The Inn at Christmas Place

The Inn at Christmas Place is a 4-star hotel with extremely high reviews on Google. It is, as the name suggests, a Christmas-themed inn, and they do it right all year long, with an entire toy bag of amenities:

  • Daily hot breakfast, with special visits from characters, March-December
  • The Winter Wonder Lagoon, with a lazy river and waterfall
  • Beautifully landscaped courtyard, complete with a pond
  • Singing Santa live concerts, followed by milk and cookies
  • An authentic Glockenspiel

As for rooms, there are King mini-suites, two-room suites, and of course, the Santa Suite!

Compass by Margaritaville

The Compass by Margaritaville is perfect for those who love that “island vibe”. Pastel colors in and out, island-themed furnishings, plus Jimmy Buffett music playing on video screens around the property 24/7.

Compass offers both jr. suites and one-bedroom suites.

The hotel also features two amazing, family-friendly pools, a convenience store, and a great location, just across the street from Gorilla Tacos (one of our favs!)

Margaritaville Island Inn

Another Margaritaville property, the Margaritaville Island Inn, sits between the Parkway in the front and the Island entertainment complex in the back. That means you’re within easy walking distance of restaurants, shopping, and attractions. It’s bordered on one side by the Alcatraz East Crime Museum and the Comedy Barn Theater, and on the other side by the Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show.

Like the Compass Hotel, you’ll enjoy the “island vibe” at the Inn. You’ll also enjoy the two-bedroom suites offered here!

Margaritaville Island Hotel

And yet another Margaritaville property.

The Margaritaville Island Hotel is the “big brother” to the Compass and the Inn. You’ll recognize the look and the vibe – it’s obvious the three hotels are related to each other.

The hotel is located in The Island entertainment complex. (It’s the first thing you pass when entering The Island from the main parking area. Staying here gives you easy walking access to several excellent restaurants, fantastic shopping opportunities, and a variety of activities for the children. (The last time we were there, The Island had a dozen or so life-sized, animatronic dinosaurs on display!)

The Margaritaville Island Hotel offers both one and two-bedroom suites, plus special penthouse suites. Plus…

“The ultimate way to stay in Margaritaville, our exclusive penthouse floor offers the best in laid-back luxury for groups or families. This keyed-access-only floor features a shared foyer with a leather couch, a TV, bar tables, and a foosball table. The floor holds three suites that can be combined to form a two, three, or five-bedroom getaway.” ~ (Taken from the Margaritaville Island Hotel website.)

Arbors at Island Landing Hotel & Suites

A two-star hotel with an average of 4.7 stars on Google must be something special! Arbors at Island Landing Hotel & Suites is VERY special.

Arbors at Island Landing boasts so many family-friendly features and amenities. There’s…

…Krispy Kreme donuts are available 24/7. (That’s enough reason to stay here all by itself!)

…weekly singing and s’mores around the campfire.

…a large meadow that slopes all the way to the Little Pigeon River. You can even borrow fishing rods. Or just enjoy sitting by the river in one of the many rocking chairs.

…a beautifully maintained flower garden.

Plus, the hotel is conveniently located right on the Parkway, near The Island. And, of course, the Arbors boasts suites – one bedroom, two bedroom, and even three bedroom suites.

Courtyard Pigeon Forge

The Courtyard by Marriott Pigeon Forge is a beautiful hotel in a lovely spot. It sits alongside the Pigeon Forge Greenway, which follows the path of the Little Pigeon River. The hotel is situated a block off the Parkway, which means it’s a bit calmer and quieter here.

As the name implies, the Courtyard also features a wonderful courtyard, complete with comfortable chairs, fire pits, and a large outdoor fireplace. There’s also a pool with a lazy river.

One-bedroom suites are available with either mountain or river views.

Fairfield Inn & Suites

The suites at Fairfield Inn & Suites are not actually separate rooms. Instead, they are one room divided into two sections by partial walls – a sitting section and a bedroom section. (See the photo below.) The suites are offered with either a king bed or two queen beds.

I like the location of the Fairfield. It’s on Teaster Lane, a block off the Parkway. You’ll enjoy less traffic and noise, yet still have easy access to dining, shopping, and attractions. Plus, the inn offers an outdoor pool and a fitness center.

Embassy Suites by Hilton

We love the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Pigeon Forge. It’s a new hotel, having opened in Spring 2025. It still has that “new hotel smell”.

Embassy Suites is located next to The Ripken Experience Baseball fields. It’s also just down the road from the Convention Center, and a short drive from The Island.

But the best thing about the Embassy Suites Pigeon Forge is the rooftop restaurant, which serves the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. You’ll enjoy the huge buffet, cooked-to-order meals, and one of the best views in the Smokies. Plus, there’s an outdoor patio.

As you might imagine from the name, every room at the Embassy SUITES is a suite.

Black Fox Lodge

The Black Fox Lodge is a four-star Hilton property situated just about a block off the Parkway. It backs up to the Riverwalk Greenway, which parallels the Little Pigeon River, so the balcony views are excellent.

The lodge has all the usual amenities – pool, fitness center, free Wifi, on-site restaurant – plus it is located less than one block from the convention center. It is a part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection, which features boutique hotels that lean heavily into local culture.

The Black Fox Lodge offers both jr. suites (a separate bedroom plus a sofa couch in the living area) and two-bedroom suites.

Hilton Garden Inn Pigeon Forge

We stayed in this Hilton Garden Inn on our most recent visit to Pigeon Forge. It is exactly what you would expect from a Hilton Garden Inn – nice-sized, comfortable rooms, both indoor and outdoor pools, a complimentary breakfast, fitness area, etc.

The Inn is situated on Teaster Lane, just next door to the Fairfield Inn & Suites mentioned earlier in this post.

The hotel’s suites are all jr. suites, which have a bedroom and a sofa bed in the sitting area.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • I’m going with The Inn at Christmas Place, since Tripadvisor named it the #1 Family-Friendly Hotel in America!
